RANI VIDYA DEVI
PRESIDENT, M.G.D GIRLS' SCHOOL
I take this opportunity to welcome you all to the sixth edition of MGDMUN , to be held from 14th to 16th October 2019.
The theme Revive to Reform emasculates the very essence of today’s reality as well as predicament. In this fast emerging global village we all consciously need to debate and deliberate over reviving systems, policies and perceptions in order to usher in a sustainable life and society . I am sure the delegates will bring in fresh approach , comprehensive analysis and a mature understanding to all the agendas they pursue.
I wish MGD MUN all the success.
MRS. ARCHANA S. MANKOTIA
PRINCIPAL, M.G.D GIRLS' SCHOOL
“I know reform is never easy. But I know reform is right.”
MUN CONFERENCE not only prepares children to debate and deliberate but gives them skills to research and reflect and further look beyond what is already accepted and existing. Even more important is the process of navigating through a maze of discussions in order to find a solution , to form a consensus in collaboration with others. This whole journey beginning with research through debate, negotiations and disagreements to finally prepare a ‘Resolution’ is what makes MUN so purposeful and powerful. I am sure delegates will explore the theme Revive to Reform with great panache and while doing so discover hitherto unknown facets of their own personality to become even better Munners.
MRS. ANU MATHUR
MUN COORDINATOR, MGD MUN 2019
MUN seeks to march in sync with the fast changing world. We are all aware that the world is besieged with a plethora of challenges like refugee crises, religious intolerance, discrimination on the basis of caste, creed, environmental issues and many other problems. In a conflict torn world it is not possible for a single nation to fight these challenges alone. The nations need to join hands and contribute towards realizing the mission to bring peace and harmony in the world. MGDMUN provides you the platform to hone your astute analytical ability where you will all come up with the viable and acceptable solutions. The MGD MUN team welcomes you all to the sixth edition of MGDMUN19.
I am sure each participant imbibes the spirit of “ Revive to Reform” and contributes in his/ her unique manner towards the betterment of the society and the world at large.
I wish all of you the most enriching memorable moments at MGDMUN 2019.
SECRETARY GENERAL, MGD MUN 2019
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the sixth edition of the Maharani Gayatri Devi Girls’ school model United Nations 2019.
The world is changing, and changing fast. Technology, education, health, eating habits- there is hardly anything in life that is not changing, some changes we like, while others create fear and anxiety.
We all know we do not have any means to change our past but we definitely know for a fact that we can learn from the past and hence, this year, as we realise the potency we hold in our hands to erase the indelible marks our past has left us with, we pick this year’s conference theme as ‘Revive to Reform’.
This conference is for you to ponder over what the previous resolutions could have had or rather not have to make a better today. Along with that, it’s for you to fathom that with time, new policies and actions are needed. In our minds we all thus need to know that, to scramble for a reformed world, we need to fight against ravages of time and policies that represent a bygone era. You all need to think of how you can change the present by taking judicious decisions in the
various committees you are going to participate in.
The scope of this year’s MGDMUN will not just remain confined to conventional committees. Keeping this in mind, we have incorporated some new ideas and introduced some highly challenging committees such as Committee on the peaceful uses of Outer space which will deliberate on the possibilities of colonization of outer space and reforming policies of the past, United Nations high commission on refugees which will deal with the prevalent crisis of prolonged displacement of refugees and the committee on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice which will simultaneously deal with hate crimes and crimes based on religion and society. With that we also have, All India Political Parties Meet which will deliberate upon the issue of reservations which India definitely needs to ponder upon, Security Council which will tackle the Yemeni crisis, an issue which is gnawing at the world and lastly the Economic and Social Council which will shed light upon the world economic issues and try to stabilize the economy which is susceptible to frailness due to any negative change in factors affecting it.
For years, policymakers have hoped that time and traditional measures would restore normal growth and inflation but repeating measures deployed over more than a decade aren’t suddenly going to result in a different outcome.
Members of society need to share the burden equitably if they wish that the solutions are to be politically sustainable, and formulated in such a manner that they avoid damage of social cohesion. It must recognize environmental risks as we have no planet other than this one, no matter what space-loving technophiles believe.
With every agenda of the conference encompassing within it a hope for change, you will have to adapt the old playbook to new challenges. Because as we know that to rescue democracy, we must revive the reforms of the Progressive Era and it is us, the youth, who have the ability to
achieve the goals that we desire.
May be then, you can call it a new beginning!
All the very best delegates, eagerly waiting to see you all this October!
PRANJAL KHANDELWAL & MAAHI BUMB
JOINT PRESIDENTS, MGD MUN 2019
It is a pleasure to be able to serve you as Joint Presidents for the 2019 edition of MGDMUN. Mr António Guterres said, “Our most serious shortcoming – and here I refer to the entire international community – is our inability to prevent crises. The United Nations was born from war. Today we must be here for peace.” We, at MGD, believe that the power of humans lies in our ability to analyse complex situations, overcome them and, consequently, spearhead those problems with suitable solutions. Therefore, the theme of this year’s conference is ‘Revive to Reform’.
Through the course of these three days, we encourage you to dig deeper into your agendas, understand the intricacy of these issues, and evaluate the consequences of the solutions you propose. Moreover, we hope you look beyond your country’s aspirations and suggest reforms that would act as a catalyst towards a pragmatic and efficient outcome.
The MGDMUN team hopes to provide delegates with an intellectually stimulating environment to voicetheir opinions simulating some of the world’s most powerful leaders and representatives of the nation.
We sincerely hope that MGDMUN 2019 proves to be a platform with utmost learning and fun!
